Mt Hyland is a high point in northern NSW at 1,434 metres. The peak shelters Gondwana rainforests that were fiercely defended in the Black Summer fires.
The summit track gently rises through cool temperate rainforests to the trig beacon. There are sassafras, possumwood, mountain walnut in the sheltered gullies, banksia, gnarled vines and snow grass at the summit. It’s a beautiful walk, take your time!

At the summit is a visitor book which you can sign. There is a view through the trees over the surrounding plains towards Barren Mountain, but for an even better view, head back to Vista Point picnic area on Chaelundi Road.
If you have time, continue exploring on Chaelundi Road visiting the other lookouts, or add on the Escarpment Walk and Lucifers Thumb in nearby Guy Fawkes River National Park.
